Commonly know as the"default" file type. Typically used for high quality photography and low resolution online image. Will lose quality if scaled over its pixels width. Does not support transparency online. not recommended for print use.

Uses of Jpg:-

  • Still Images
  • Photography
  • Images with complex colors and dynamic

Portable Network Graphics

Best used online for text and graphics with high quality and high image size.Transparent background allows user to see graphics behind it. Not meant for scaling large than its pixels width or for printing.

Uses of PNG:-

  • Web graphics that require transparency
  • Color heavy and complex photographs and graphics
  • Images that require re-editing and re-exporting

Bitmap

Short for "Bitmap, It can be pronounced as "bump", "B-M-P," or simply a "Bitmap Image".  The BMP format is a commonly used Raster Graphic format for saving image files. It was introduced on the Windows platform but is now recognized by many programs on both Macs and PCs.This method of storing image information allows for crisp, high-quality graphics, but also produces large file sizes.JPEG and GIF images are used on the Web, while BMP images are often used for printable images.

Scalable Vector Graphics

SVG  is not a pure bitmap format. Instead, it is a vector format that is steadily becoming an attractive option for web and UI designers. SVG is best-suited to displaying logos, icons,  charts, and other graphics. As vectors can be scaled to any size, they are ideal for responsive design.

Use SVG for:

  • Logos and icon with strong, geometric, vector-friendly design
  • Graphics that may need to be displayed in multiple sizes and screens
  • Graphics that respond to their device

Encapsulated Postscript

EPS  is a vector format designed for printing. It is considered the best choice of graphics format for high resolution printing of illustrations. Vector graphics are a scalable, resolution-independent format composed of individual objects or shapes. Vector images can be resized easily without loss of quality making them an ideal format for initial logo designs and illustrations to be used in multiple sizes.
